Ukrainian Traitor in Zaporizhzhia Receives 15-Year Sentence for Espionage and Terror Plot.
Court Convicts Traitor in Zaporizhzhia
According to TSN.ua: A local resident of Zaporizhzhia has been sentenced to 15 years in prison for state treason and preparing a terrorist act. The man passed intelligence on the Ukrainian Armed Forces to Russian occupation forces and planned to set fire to a post office. The trial was held in the Shevchenkivskyi District Court of Zaporizhzhia.
Critical Phase and Consequences
The investigation revealed that early 2024 marked a critical phase when the individual was recruited to collaborate with the occupiers. For his actions, which included planning the arson, he received a payment of 5,000 US dollars. The court found him guilty under Part 2 of Article 111 (State Treason) and Part 2 of Article 258 (Preparation of a Terrorist Act) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.
Furthermore, the court's ruling mandated the confiscation of all the convict's property. Evidence gathered during the investigation confirmed his criminal intent. Notably, he was recorded stating:
"The engines are starting up, roaring so loud it's unbelievable! You can hear it all over the district. We'll need to hang out there and comb through everything."
This case sends a strong signal about the severe penalties for treason and terrorism in Ukraine, underscoring the intolerable nature of collaborating with the enemy during wartime. It highlights the intense pressure on Ukrainian society and the legal system as the nation defends itself against both external invasion and internal subversion. The judicial proceedings demonstrate the state's commitment to holding accountable those who threaten national security and undermine the foundations of the state, serving as a stark warning to other potential collaborators.
