Salaries of Medical Workers — Who Can Have Salaries Increased by 50%.

A bill regarding the increase of salaries for medical workers has been registered in the Parliament. According to this bill, the official salaries and all additional allowances and surcharges are to be increased by 50%.

The shortage of doctors, especially obstetricians and paramedics, particularly in remote areas, leads to an overload of working medical personnel and a decrease in the quality of medical assistance

The initiators of the bill emphasized the issue of staff shortages in the field of primary medical care in Ukraine. This leads to limited access for citizens to quality medical assistance.

Changes in Physicians’ Salaries

According to the bill, salaries for obstetricians and paramedics in primary medical care are to increase by 50 percent.

Terms of Salary Increase

If the bill is adopted, it will come into effect the day after its publication and will be effective from January 1 of the year following its publication.

Position of the Ministry of Health

The Minister of Health noted that salaries for doctors remain unchanged, but it is important to increase tariffs for medical services and support medical workers. Funding for the medical sector in Ukraine is only 2.5% of the total budget, which is less than the recommendations of the WHO.

The adoption of the law on increasing salaries for medical workers may help solve the issue of staff shortages in the medical field and improve the quality of medical assistance for citizens.
