Heavy Traffic Congestion Reported on Odesa-Reni Highway Near Moldovan and Romanian Borders.
Traffic Conditions on the Odesa-Reni Route
According to Novyny.live: Significant traffic jams formed on the Odesa-Reni highway on February 7, 2023, heading towards the borders with Moldova and Romania. The most severe congestion is reported near the town of Palanka, where movement is heavily restricted. Difficult traffic conditions are also being recorded on the M-15 highway in the direction of Orlivka, particularly near the areas of Tatarbunary, Brosky, and Izmail.
Despite the backups, exit from Ukraine at the Reni–Giurgiulești border crossing point is currently proceeding without queues. This key crossing point into the European Union is a vital route for many travelers and commercial transport. However, with deteriorating weather, forecasters issued a Level 1 warning for dangerous meteorological phenomena in Odesa and the surrounding region for February 8, which is expected to further impact road conditions.
Advice for Drivers
Given the challenging traffic situation, drivers are strongly advised to exercise heightened caution and to factor in substantial potential delays for their journeys.
The overall situation on roads around Odesa and towards the Moldovan and Romanian borders underscores the need for careful travel planning, especially with the worsening weather. Congestion is likely to cause major delays, and motorists should prepare for significant difficulties. While the lack of queues at the Reni–Giurgiulești checkpoint may offer some relief for those heading abroad, caution is still warranted due to the forecasted hazardous weather conditions.
