Zelensky Open to Direct Talks with Putin as Allies Push for Diplomatic Solution.
Diplomatic Push to End the War
According to UATV: Key allies of Ukraine are actively exploring ways to bring the war with Russia to a diplomatic close, including the possibility of direct negotiations with Russian President Vladimir Putin. The Ukrainian side has signaled its openness to any format of talks, underscoring a strong desire to reach a peaceful resolution. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky stated:
“We support any format, and I am ready for direct negotiations with Putin to end this war.”
In this context, Hungarian Prime Minister Peter Magyar suggested that Hungary could serve as a venue for such talks. He emphasized that “promises have not been kept, as empty slogans achieve little.” This highlights how international partners are working to establish an effective platform for discussing a peace settlement.
Russia’s Situation and International Support
U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio also confirmed Washington’s continued involvement in the peace process, stating that “this war can only end at the negotiating table, but achieving that is difficult.” Meanwhile, Latvian Foreign Minister Baiba Braže expressed skepticism about the prospects for successful talks, saying that “Russia’s demands are unacceptable to Ukraine” and that peace negotiations will yield no results until Putin changes his political goals.
The situation inside Russia is also shaping the context of the negotiation process. The country is experiencing an economic crisis and rising inflation, which could add pressure on the Kremlin. Discussions on a peaceful resolution continue against this backdrop, with representatives from Germany, France, and the UK aiming to bring Russia to the table, hoping for positive shifts in this complex situation.
Thus, the international community is continuing to seek ways to achieve peace in Ukraine, while the Ukrainian side remains open to dialogue, hoping to end the conflict through negotiations.
Ukraine’s commitment to a peaceful resolution underscores the importance of diplomacy in the current situation. The stance of international partners, including the U.S. and EU countries, also shows their readiness to support the negotiation process, although there is significant skepticism about its chances for success. Economic challenges in Russia could act as a catalyst for a change in the Kremlin’s position, but so far, real progress in talks remains uncertain.
