Address by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy

According to UATV: In his daily address on January 16, 2023, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy detailed his intensive diplomatic schedule and preparations for upcoming meetings at the World Economic Forum in Davos. These talks are critical as Ukraine marks the 1,423rd day of Russia's full-scale invasion. Zelenskyy has held discussions with key international partners, including Czech President Petr Pavel, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, and Speaker of the Latvian Saeima, Daiga Mieriņa.

President Zelenskyy stressed that the current moment is not for ceremonial meetings without concrete outcomes.

“This is absolutely not the time for loud but empty talk or formal gatherings. We need results for real people—for Ukrainians, for all Europeans, for Americans,” he stated.
He also emphasized the urgent need for continued international support, particularly regarding military aid:
“We are speaking frankly with our partners about missiles for air defense and the systems we so desperately need. Current deliveries are insufficient,” he added.
Highlighting the necessity of increased military assistance, Zelenskyy called for active support for those in need, urging: “Please, help those near you who are alone and need your support.”

The Critical Need for International Support

Zelenskyy underscored that wars do not end without sustained pressure on the aggressor, noting that “wars do not end without pressure. And precisely because there is too little pressure, the Russians are able to do all this.” His remarks come as Ukraine faces a challenging phase in the conflict, reliant on Western aid to sustain its defense. Thus, the Ukrainian President continues his vigorous diplomatic campaign to secure vital backing for his country on the global stage.

President Zelenskyy's address highlights the indispensable role of international support for Ukraine amidst Russia's ongoing aggression. By stressing the need for substantive negotiations, he focuses attention on the real-world requirements of Ukrainian soldiers and civilians, which may influence partners' future decisions on military aid. In the current context, Ukraine's active diplomacy remains crucial for maintaining the commitment of the international community.
