Kyiv Talks: Zelenskyy and Starmer Discuss New €300 Million Aid Package.
Meeting Between Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Keir Starmer
According to UATV: During a meeting in Kyiv, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer discussed continued support for Ukraine. The two leaders highlighted the strength of the Ukraine-UK partnership and future assistance, even as the British government undergoes a change in leadership.
Zelenskyy expressed gratitude, stating: 'I want to thank you for the aid provided to Ukraine over this entire period. Thousands of defense systems: anti-aircraft missiles, air defense equipment, and other weaponry. The UK’s support for Ukraine during this time has exceeded 11 billion pounds, with nearly 8 billion pounds allocated specifically for military aid. This is substantial, and it is invaluable.' Over the years of cooperation, Ukraine and the UK have held 46 meetings, reflecting the stability and active nature of their bilateral relationship.
Financial Backing and Future Plans
The United Kingdom has provided Ukraine with more than 11 billion pounds in total assistance, of which roughly 8 billion pounds has gone to military support. Overall, since the start of the war, the UK has committed over 20 billion pounds in aid to Ukraine. During his latest visit to Ukraine, Prime Minister Keir Starmer announced an additional aid package worth 300 million euros.
Despite political shifts in London, experts believe that 'with a change of prime minister, little will change—perhaps the opposite: to demonstrate an active foreign policy, certain steps will be taken.' A key milestone in advancing relations will be the signing of a century-long partnership agreement between the UK and Ukraine in 2025. It has been reported that Andy Burnham, the Mayor of Manchester, will become the next UK prime minister, though support for Ukraine is expected to remain robust.
The interaction between Ukraine and the UK continues to deepen, underscoring their joint efforts to ensure regional security and stability.
This meeting reaffirms the longstanding and steady ties between Ukraine and the UK—relationships that remain crucial not only for both nations but also for European security. Given the persistent challenges Ukraine faces, British support is vital for strengthening the country’s defense capabilities. The signing of the centennial partnership agreement in 2025 will mark a new chapter in bilateral relations, promising further collaboration across multiple sectors.
