Zelensky Awards Posthumously Deceased Journalists: Who Was Honored.
According to inkorr.com: The President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky awarded state honors to journalists who died during the war, on the occasion of Radio, Television, and Communication Workers' Day. Among the awardees are French journalist Antoni Lallikan, photographer Kostyantyn Huzenko, as well as Freedom TV employees Olena Hubanova and Yevgen Karmazin.
These journalists received awards for their significant contribution to the development of Ukrainian media, as well as for their high professional skills and dedication in covering the events of the war with Russia. Awards were also given to injured journalists Oleksandr Kolychev and Hryhoriy Ivanchenko.
Events Leading to Journalists' Deaths
On October 3, French journalist and photographer Antoni Lallikan was killed in an attack by a Russian FPV drone. Along with him, Ukrainian journalists were severely injured.
In Kramatorsk on October 23, journalist Olena Hubanova from Freedom TV and operator Yevgen Karmazin were killed when a Russian drone hit a civilian car.
Since the beginning of the war in Ukraine in February 2022, 135 journalists, both Ukrainian and international, have been killed. President Zelensky noted that the actions of the Russians are part of a deliberate campaign of intimidation and murder of those who seek to convey the truth about the war.
The awarding of honors to deceased journalists for their contribution to Ukrainian media and high professionalism is an important step in honoring their memory and acknowledging the sacrifice they made during the war with Russia. This gesture underscores the importance of freedom of speech and the significance of journalistic activity in conflict conditions.
