Kyiv Devastated by Massive Attack: 22 Dead, Nearly 90 Wounded.
Aftermath of Russian Strikes Across Ukraine
According to UATV: Ukraine is still grappling with the consequences of renewed Russian bombardments that once again targeted Kyiv and its surrounding region. According to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, the strikes resulted in 22 fatalities and left roughly 90 people injured. He described the Kremlin’s approach as deliberately cruel, stating:
“The Russian tactic remains the same: inflict as much pain and damage as possible on Ukrainians and Ukraine.” - Volodymyr Zelenskyy
Casualties and Military Response
On July 6, 2023, President Zelenskyy provided an update on the toll from the latest Russian offensive. The assault involved:
- 68 missiles of various types
- More than 350 drones, including jet-powered Shaheds
Despite the scale of the attack, Ukraine’s air defenses managed to destroy all 6 Kalibr cruise missiles and intercept 31 out of 33 other cruise missiles. The president also called on Ukraine’s Security Service and intelligence agencies to conduct a thorough investigation into what happened in Vyshneve, emphasizing:
“I expect the Security Service of Ukraine and intelligence to fully clarify the events in Vyshneve.” - Volodymyr Zelenskyy
As the war continues, Zelenskyy stressed that “the Russians will increasingly feel that this war must end.” In a significant development, Ukraine’s long-range sanctions reached the Omsk oil refinery, located approximately 2,500 kilometers from Ukraine’s borders—demonstrating that Kyiv is fighting back not only on the battlefield but also in the economic domain. The president remarked:
“It is simply absurd that in the modern world, production is still not organized...” - Volodymyr Zelenskyy
The situation remains dire, with Ukrainian authorities working tirelessly to address the aftermath of the attacks and implement measures to protect civilians and infrastructure. These events underscore the relentless intensity of hostilities in Ukraine and their severe impact on the civilian population. At the same time, Ukraine’s active response—successfully intercepting missiles and imposing sanctions—reflects the country’s determination to counter aggression. The heightened scrutiny of the circumstances surrounding the strikes, particularly in Vyshneve, signals the government’s commitment not only to react but also to analyze every detail to strengthen future defenses.
