Europe Must Have a Seat at the Table: Zelenskyy Sets Condition for Talks with Russia.
Address by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy
According to UATV: Speaking at the European Council meeting, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stressed that Europe must be involved in any negotiations with Russia and called for additional winter aid for Ukraine. He made clear that without Europe's participation, there can be no talks with Moscow.
“Everyone understands that some form of contact will take place, but we must not create chaos in this process,” Zelenskyy stated.
Ukraine's Urgent Needs
Zelenskyy highlighted that Ukraine requires a winter assistance package, which includes:
- Energy resources such as gas, diesel, and gasoline;
- 300 anti-ballistic missiles for the next 3–4 months.
At the Brussels summit, EU leaders reaffirmed their commitment to continued military support for Ukraine, a crucial step given the current circumstances.
“Of course, we want to end this war before winter — through diplomacy, and of course, it is very important — also through pressure on Russia,” the president added.
He also appealed to European partners: “Help us prepare for winter. We are asking you for this now.” Additionally, sanctions against Russia were extended for another year, underscoring the European Union's ongoing backing of Ukraine amid the protracted conflict.
Zelenskyy's address underscores the critical situation Ukraine faces as winter approaches. With an energy crisis and ongoing military challenges, support from the European Union is vital for ensuring stability in the country. The extension of sanctions on Russia and continued military aid could shape the outcomes of negotiations, which, according to Zelenskyy, must be organized with European partners at the table.
