Zelensky Confirms Strikes Over 700 km into Russia: New Targets and Flight Restrictions.
Long-Range Strikes Continue Amid Escalation
According to UATV: Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has confirmed that his country’s defense forces are pressing ahead with long-range strikes against Russian military assets. These operations have hit targets both inside Russia and in temporarily occupied territories. According to the president,
“our warriors have achieved strong results using long-range capabilities more than 700 kilometers from our state border.”
On June 14, 2023, Ukrainian forces carried out attacks on several key sites. These included:
- a facility in Russia’s Yaroslavl region linked to the oil industry;
- the 'Azot' industrial plant in the Tula region;
- the 'Crimean Titan' factory in occupied Armiansk.
In response, Russia declared air raid alerts across 28 regions. Additionally, flight operations were restricted at six Russian airports. Zelensky emphasized that
“Ukraine is executing its plan of long-range strikes against Russia and certain mid-range tasks in response to Russia’s refusal to end this war.”These actions underscore Ukraine’s ongoing strategy to counter aggression and bolster national security, even as the conflict enters a more protracted phase.
Conflict Intensifies
The sustained use of long-range strikes highlights the intensifying nature of the Ukraine-Russia war, with both sides working to strengthen their positions. For Ukraine, these attacks are a way to demonstrate its capacity to respond to threats and maintain strategic initiative, even in distant regions. They also signal potential shifts in wartime tactics that could shape the conflict’s future trajectory.
