Easing Sanctions Fuels Russia’s Military, Zelensky Warns.
Volodymyr Zelensky’s Stance on Sanctions Against Russia
According to Novyny.live: Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has cautioned that any relaxation of international sanctions directly aids Russia’s war effort. He argues that only intensified global pressure can serve as an effective response to aggression. In an interview with Face the Nation, Zelensky stressed that lifting sanctions effectively supports Russian soldiers by propping up the country's defense industry.
Economic Fallout of Loosening Sanctions
Zelensky pointed out that Russian oil accounts for 5% of the global supply. He also noted that after certain sanctions were eased, no positive outcomes emerged—such as lower worldwide prices for oil, gas, or diesel.
“After the easing of some sanctions, we saw no surprises, like a drop in global oil, gas, or diesel prices,” Volodymyr Zelensky stated.
The Ukrainian leader emphasized that “we must be strong and impose more sanctions against them.” His remarks highlight the need for decisive action by the international community to counter the threat posed by Russian aggression. Zelensky believes that only through tighter sanctions can an effective response to Russia’s actions be achieved, helping to maintain regional stability.
Zelensky’s comments reflect Ukraine’s ongoing concern that softening sanctions could embolden Russia’s military operations. Against the backdrop of global economic challenges—particularly volatility in energy markets—calls for tougher sanctions are becoming more urgent as the international community seeks effective ways to counter aggression. This underscores the need for coordinated efforts to support Ukraine and preserve security in the region.
