Zelenskyy Links Massive Strike on Kyiv to Putin's Birthday Greeting for Trump.
Kyiv Under Fire: Zelenskyy's Response
According to Novyny.live: Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has drawn a direct connection between Russia's large-scale assault on Ukraine and the birthday wishes Vladimir Putin sent to U.S. President Donald Trump. According to Zelenskyy, the Kremlin may have deliberately postponed the attack to carry it out immediately after that greeting.
The heavy bombardment of Kyiv occurred during the night of June 14–15. Two people were killed in the strike, and several important sites sustained damage. Among the affected locations were the grounds of the Kyiv Pechersk Lavra, where a fire broke out on the roof of the Dormition Cathedral, and the Oleksandr Dovzhenko Film Studio, which also suffered destruction.
“Putin, as always, acted with absolute cynicism—congratulating the U.S. president and then, with equal cynicism, launching a massive attack on Ukraine.” - Volodymyr Zelenskyy
Commenting on the situation, Zelenskyy stated: “We will have more to say.” His remarks underscore the gravity of the incident and his administration's stance toward Kremlin actions.
How International Events Shape the Conflict
This episode highlights the strained relations between Ukraine and Russia, as well as how global political developments directly influence the military situation on the ground. Given the assault on Kyiv, close attention is now focused on reactions from the international community—especially the United States—and any potential shifts in foreign policy toward Ukraine. Such attacks serve as a stark reminder of the ongoing security challenges and the urgent need to protect civilians in a conflict that has persisted for years.
