President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskiy stated that he knows what is happening in Vladimir Putin's mind. He reported this to American journalist Fareed Zakaria from CNN. Putin stated that he is ready for negotiations but noted demands that amount to a capitulation for Ukraine.

Zelenskiy expressed his thoughts regarding Putin's statement. He noted that Putin has not changed his main idea and from Time to time plays poker with other leaders to show that he is ready for dialogue. The President noted that Putin uses the weakness of the West and the interests of other countries to find a place for his actions.

Zelenskiy understood that Putin's mission is not to stop the war but to avoid Ukraine's success. He emphasized that Putin is afraid of the Russian society and knows that a strong Ukraine can influence Russian citizens. Zelenskiy called for Ukraine to be strong to urge Putin to negotiate.

The American journalist also asked how Zelenskiy thinks the war would end if it is not possible to win outright. The President replied that Putin is not afraid of leaders and countries, but he is afraid of his own society. Zelenskiy believes that if Russian citizens feel danger and do not have a comfortable life, they will influence Putin and urge him to negotiate.
