Zelensky appointed a new deputy head of the SBU: who has become it.
According to ТСН: The President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky appointed Yaroslav Merezhko as the deputy head of the Security Service of Ukraine. This decision was the result of today’s personnel changes in the leadership of the special service.
According to Presidential Decree No. 47/2026, published on the official website of the president, it is stated:
«Appoint Merezhko Yaroslav Viktorovych as Deputy Head of the Security Service of Ukraine».
The decree, signed on January 13, 2026, took effect upon publication. Yaroslav Merezhko will work under the current Head of the SBU, strengthening the management structure of the special service in the conditions of martial law.
It should also be noted that on January 2, President Zelensky began active personnel changes in both politics and the special services.
Personnel changes in the Security Service of Ukraine are taking place against the backdrop of the ongoing military situation in the country. The appointment of Merezhko may indicate the need for new solutions and strengthening of the management staff for more effective responses to the challenges facing the state.
