Zelenskyy: Ceding Donbas Territory Will Not End the War.
Ukraine's President on the Donbas
According to Novyny.live: In an interview with the Financial Times, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has firmly rejected the idea of ceding the Donbas region to Russia, stating that such a concession would not bring the war to an end. He argued that Russia is not serious about negotiations and is only participating to avoid angering the United States. Zelenskyy believes that Ukrainian compromises will not lead to a genuine peace. This stance reflects the broader geopolitical struggle in Eastern Europe, where Ukraine's sovereignty is central to regional security.
Zelenskyy also expressed deep distrust of Russia, suggesting its current demands are not its ultimate goals.
“Frankly, I do not believe this is all Russia wants. That we withdraw our troops from the Donbas and then it's over. Russia is Russia, and, you know, they cannot be trusted,”he stated. This highlights his concern that Moscow would present further demands if initial concessions were made.
An Appeal for U.S. Action
Furthermore, Zelenskyy called for active measures from the United States, hoping that President Trump and the U.S. would pressure Russia and halt President Putin.
“I hope that President Trump and the United States will put pressure on Russia and stop Putin. But I rely first and foremost on the citizens of Ukraine, our army, our production,”he added. This underscores the critical importance of both international support and domestic resilience for Ukraine in facing external threats.
President Zelenskyy's remarks emphasize the complexity of the situation in Ukraine, where issues of territorial integrity and relations with Russia remain critically urgent. The uncertainty surrounding future negotiations and potential Ukrainian concessions is a source of concern, as it could impact the overall stability of the region. His appeal to the United States illustrates how vital international backing is for Ukraine as it strives to defend its national interests and maintain security in its eastern territories.
