Ukrainian President's Remarks on the Iran Situation
According to UATV: On March 4, 2023, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy addressed Iran's role in global security, framing it within the context of Ukraine's own defense. Speaking on the 1470th day of Russia's full-scale invasion, Zelenskyy underscored the broader dangers posed by the Iranian regime, emphasizing the critical need for international aid to counter Iranian drones used against Ukraine.
Zelenskyy detailed that Iran has launched more than 800 missiles and over 1,400 drones at neighboring countries, a significant threat to regional and global stability. He also raised the alarming prospect of a blockade of the Strait of Hormuz, stressing the necessity of a collective response to these actions.
'The Iranian regime must not gain from anything, and certainly must not destroy lives—neither there in the region nor globally—and this concerns us as well,' stated Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
The Ukrainian leader also reported active negotiations with the leaders of the Emirates, Qatar, Bahrain, Jordan, and Kuwait. In these discussions, Zelenskyy highlighted that 'This is a globally vital route for oil and gas transportation. It is precisely because of this threat that energy resource prices have been destabilized in many markets.' These statements point to the essential role of international cooperation in addressing Iranian aggression.
Furthermore, President Zelenskyy noted ongoing efforts to repatriate Ukrainian citizens from Russian captivity. 'We are working to bring all our people home from Russian captivity. We hope for good news,' he said. He added that Ukraine maintains virtually daily communication with the United States, underlining the importance of sustained international support during the war.
