Ukrainian President Comments on NABU Investigation

According to Novyny.live: On January 20, 2023, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy addressed the National Anti-Corruption Bureau's (NABU) investigation into Yulia Timoshenko, stating he sees no political motive behind the case. Responding to journalists, Zelenskyy expressed his view that the accusations against the former prime minister are unrelated to Ukraine's electoral processes. This case is being closely watched as a test of judicial independence in Ukraine.

Details of Bail and Searches

On January 16, 2023, the High Anti-Corruption Court set bail for Yulia Timoshenko at 33 million hryvnias. However, Timoshenko is unable to pay this amount due to her bank accounts being frozen. Concurrently, NABU and the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office (SAPO) conducted searches in the ex-premier's office in connection with allegations of potential bribery of members of parliament.

Zelenskyy also suggested there are attempts to influence the parliamentary majority but stressed he sees no link between these events and the country's elections.

"To be honest, I wouldn't compare it to Yanukovych myself. At least, I don't recall there being a package from Nova Poshta," he remarked.
The president emphasized that this is not the first attempt to sway the majority and likely won't be the last.

The situation surrounding Yulia Timoshenko and the NABU probe highlights the tensions within Ukraine's political landscape, particularly ahead of future elections. Despite efforts to dismiss claims of political influence, the actions of anti-corruption bodies have raised concerns among some citizens about potential manipulation in the country's political life. This could impact voter trust and the stability of the parliamentary majority.
