Zelenskyy Warns of Consequences for Millions of Ukrainians if Territory is Ceded to Russia.
Zelenskyy's Stance on Ceding Territory to Russia
According to Novyny.live: In an interview with Sky News, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy addressed the idea of trading land for peace, outlining the severe repercussions of such a move. He stated that surrendering territory to Russia, specifically naming cities like Sloviansk and Kramatorsk, would result in the occupation of approximately 200,000 Ukrainians. This statement comes amid ongoing international discussions about potential pathways to end the conflict.
Zelenskyy emphasized that while Kyiv supports ending the war, Ukraine intends to reclaim all occupied territories.
"They are not winning, and we are not losing," the President noted. He expressed a willingness to meet with a Russian representative to establish peace, but firmly rejected territorial concessions as a precondition.
Furthermore, Zelenskyy posed a critical question:
"Who told Russia these people want to be Russian? If they refuse, they will be killed, sent to the front, or imprisoned. This is what happened in Luhansk, Donetsk, and Crimea."His remarks underscore the gravity of the situation and his stance on the potential human cost of ceding land.
President Zelenskyy's comments highlight Ukraine's determination regarding sovereignty and territorial integrity. Despite pressure for a potential compromise, the Ukrainian government remains focused on restoring its internationally recognized borders. This firm position is likely to shape future diplomatic negotiations as Ukraine continues to seek global support in countering Russian aggression.
