Talks between Warsaw and Kyiv

According to Espreso.tv: Negotiations are ongoing between Poland and Ukraine regarding the exchange of MiG-29 aircraft for drone technologies. The Ukrainian side expressed interest in acquiring 14 machines, but Poland cannot accept the condition of conducting a general overhaul before delivery. In autumn 2025, Ukrainian military officials conducted a technical inspection of the fighters, which was a significant step in the talks.

Poland informed about the negotiations in December 2025. President Volodymyr Zelensky confirmed readiness to exchange drones for Polish aircraft in the same month. In January 2026, the government in Warsaw approved the transfer, but in June of the same year, the process was suspended. The reason was Ukraine's refusal to share its achievements in drone technology. The Minister of National Defense, Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz, commented that

“negotiations have reached a dead end.”

What’s Next and What Is the Significance of These Talks?

Despite the difficulties, Kosiniak-Kamysz added that

“there are significantly more good news in the negotiations than just a few days ago.”
This indicates the possibility of a breakthrough in the future, especially since Poland is declaring support for the modernization of MiG-29s. Both sides are constantly searching for solutions that will allow for further development of cooperation.

For regional security, these talks hold enormous strategic significance – both for Poland and Ukraine. The exchange of technology and military equipment could influence the balance of power, especially in the context of ongoing conflicts. The continuation of dialogue between the countries demonstrates the commitment to cooperation and the potential for further strengthening relations in the military sphere.
