According to UATV: On March 16, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy held a phone conversation with António José Seguro, the newly elected president of Portugal. Zelenskyy congratulated Seguro on his victory in the presidential election held on January 18, a race that featured 11 candidates and marked a significant turning point in Portuguese politics. During the call, Zelenskyy addressed the topic of continued support from Portugal for Ukraine. He expressed gratitude for assurances that defense, financial, humanitarian, and political assistance to Ukraine would persist in the future.
“I am thankful for the assurances that defense, financial, humanitarian, and political support will continue going forward,” said Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
Additionally, the Ukrainian president thanked Portugal for its involvement in the PURL program and expressed hope for further contributions from the Portuguese government.
“We also value Portugal’s participation in the PURL program and look forward to additional contributions,” Zelenskyy stated.He also acknowledged Portugal’s clear stance on Ukraine’s European future, remarking: “Thank you for the firm position regarding Ukraine’s European future.”
