Zelensky: Ukraine cannot join NATO during the war, but is waiting for an invitation
President Volodymyr Zelensky stated that Ukraine would not be able to join NATO during the war, but is waiting for an invitation.
As "Khvilya" reports, he said this in an interview with The Times of India.
According to Zelensky, the first point of the Victory Plan does not imply Ukraine's quick membership in NATO because during the war the country cannot join the Alliance.
The president emphasized that it is exclusively about an invitation so that in the future "no one changes their position" and everything is not only in words but also on paper.
"During the war, we cannot become members of NATO, we will not drag anyone into this during the war. And again, the invitation to NATO — this point is addressed exclusively to NATO countries," said the leader of Ukraine.
The second point about strengthening the defense forces with weapons concerns exclusively the countries of "Ramstein", which have been helping Ukraine since the beginning of the full-scale war. According to him, he will not discuss this point with the countries of the Global South or other states that do not strengthen Ukraine on the battlefield.
Zelensky also noted that the third point is an appeal to the package of deterring Russia. The long-range weapons package must be in Ukraine, but its presence does not yet mean the use of long-range missiles.
"This is a long-range weapons package that Ukraine will not apply if Russia stops the war against us... This point is not addressed to everyone and not even to all "Ramstein" countries. This point is addressed only to those countries that have the relevant weapons," he added.
Recall, Zelensky's representatives harshly commented on the meeting between Putin and Guterres.
