Zelensky stated the inadmissibility of leaving Donbas: what it threatens for Ukraine.
President Volodymyr Zelensky on the situation in Donbas
Volodymyr Zelensky stated that Ukraine will remain in Donbas, as there is a serious risk of aggression from Russia. He emphasized that Russia's actions without security guarantees could lead to a Third World War. He said this at a press conference on August 12.
'They suggest not leaving Donbas, but to stop in place. This may simply mean that you will not continue to advance. They suggest leaving the controlled territory, but this does not mean that the conflict is over. This is just a pause'
According to the president, Russia wants Ukraine to leave Donbas, but he urged the Armed Forces of Ukraine not to abandon these territories, as Donbas could be used for a future offensive.
Reaction to Russia's conditions
'If we decide to leave Donbas or we are pressured to do so, it could be the beginning of the third war', Zelensky emphasized. He stressed that such a step could serve as a basis for a full-scale invasion by Russia. 'By the way, one of the strongest units of their offensive troops were precisely those who were recruited from the occupied territories after 2014. This served as a basis for a possible full-scale invasion', Zelensky added.
During a meeting with journalists, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky emphasized the serious risk of aggression from Russia and refused to leave Donbas, asserting that this could serve as a reason for escalation of the conflict and the beginning of war. He also highlighted that Russia may use Donbas for a full-scale invasion of Ukraine.Read also
