The President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, stated that the deployment of a military contingent from partner countries could be an important, but not the only component of future security guarantees for Ukraine.

He made this statement during a joint press conference with Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk in Warsaw.

According to the head of state, for effective security guarantees, it is necessary to clearly define the quantitative and qualitative composition of such a contingent, as well as the participating countries and the locations of the troops. Zelensky emphasized the importance of the actual capability of this contingent.

The president revealed the current troop ratio, noting that there are about 600,000 Russian soldiers on Ukrainian territory, while the Ukrainian army numbers 880,000, of which 820,000 are defending the country's territory.

During the meeting with the Polish prime minister, issues of supply and production of weapons were discussed.

'We have significant capabilities for producing all types of drones, many types of equipment that are needed in battles. Also artillery,' emphasized Zelensky.

The parties also discussed preparations for the 16th package of EU sanctions against Russia and the prospects for Ukraine's accession to the European Union. Additionally, Poland proposed to hold a conference on Ukraine's recovery issues in 2026, which was positively received by the Ukrainian side.

It should be noted that the deployment of peacekeepers in Ukraine is actively discussed at meetings of the Defense Committee of the Verkhovna Rada, and the final decision on their deployment must be made by President Volodymyr Zelensky with the consent of Parliament.

It is worth mentioning that the German opposition party CDU supports Germany's participation in the peacekeeping mission, and according to a YouGov poll, 54% of Germans support the deployment of international peacekeeping forces in Ukraine in the event of a ceasefire.

As previously reported, EU diplomats are skeptical about the chances of successfully deploying a peacekeeping mission without the participation of the USA, especially after Donald Trump's victory in the presidential elections, who does not plan to involve American troops in a potential mission.

Additionally, President Zelensky supports the French initiative for the deployment of a peacekeeping contingent but emphasizes that the participation of one or two countries is not enough and this should be a step towards NATO.
