Zelensky: Ukraine's accession to NATO will stop Russia's imperial ambitions.
President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky spoke at the Ukraine – Northern Europe summit in Reykjavik, where he noted that there is a historic opportunity to stop aggression in Eastern Europe and prevent further spread of the conflict.
In his address to representatives of Northern European countries, the President of Ukraine thanked Iceland, Sweden, Denmark, Finland, and Norway for their military support and assistance in developing Ukraine's defense production.
Zelensky highlighted key areas of assistance, such as equipping brigades, expanding weapons production in Ukraine, including long-range missiles, drones, and electronic warfare systems. He also emphasized the need to increase purchases of artillery ammunition and counter the shadow fleet of the Russian Federation.
Zelensky warned about the growth of weapons production in Russia with the support of North Korea aiming to reach the EU level in ammunition production next year.
The President specifically noted the significance of Ukraine's future NATO membership as a security guarantee against Russian aggression. He stated that it would be an "insurmountable defensive wall" against Moscow's imperial ambitions.
All proposed initiatives are parts of the Victory Plan, the implementation of which requires the support of partners, including those who have doubts.
The summit in Reykjavik is the fourth event in the Ukraine – Northern Europe format, following meetings in Stockholm (May 2024), Oslo (December 2023), and Helsinki (May 2023).
