Ukraine Calls UN Security Council Meeting After Zelenskyy Exposes Russia’s Plan to Mobilize Half a Million Troops.
Russia’s Mobilization Ambitions and Black Sea Aggression
According to 5 канал — Політика: President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has warned that Moscow intends to conscript 500,000 citizens, prompting Kyiv to convene an emergency session of the United Nations Security Council. The request follows a series of Russian strikes on commercial vessels in the Black Sea, intensifying concerns over maritime security and regional stability. This development marks a significant escalation as Ukraine continues to face sustained military pressure along its southern front.
In an interview with Britain’s Sky News, Zelenskyy described the Kremlin’s internal fears as a driving factor behind the planned mass draft.
“Putin is afraid of his own society, of internal challenges, of being questioned at home, and of the public mood inside Russia,”the Ukrainian leader stated. He argued that these anxieties could push Moscow toward a large-scale call‑up to sustain its war effort.
International Response and Ukraine’s Countermeasures
Ukraine’s initiative to bring the matter before the UN Security Council came in direct response to Russia’s recent attacks on civilian cargo ships in the Black Sea. Acting Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha urged the global community to react firmly:
“We expect a clear and principled reaction to Russia’s latest strikes on Ukrainian civilian infrastructure and commercial vessels in the Black Sea.”
On the night of July 27, Ukrainian forces destroyed a control relay for attack drones, demonstrating continued offensive operations in occupied territories. The military situation remains volatile, with Ukraine’s defense units actively targeting enemy assets to counter the aggression. As the possibility of a half‑million troop mobilization looms, the conflict may further intensify, placing greater pressure on international bodies to prevent a broader humanitarian and security crisis.
