Zelensky appointed Budanov as the head of the President's Office: first instructions.

According to ТСН: The President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, suggested the head of the GUR Ministry of Defense, Kyrylo Budanov, to become the new head of his Office. The head of state has already given him his first task.

Zelensky announced this on social media, stating:

“I met with Kyrylo Budanov and suggested that he lead the Office of the President of Ukraine. Now Ukraine needs more focus on security issues, the development of the Defense and Security Forces of Ukraine, as well as on the diplomatic track in negotiations, and the Office of the President will serve to fulfill primarily such tasks of our state.”

He emphasized that Budanov has special experience in these areas and sufficient strength to achieve results.

Zelensky also added that he has “instructed the new head of the Office of the President” to closely cooperate with the Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine, Rustem Umerov, and other necessary leaders to revise and present for approval the strategic foundations of defense and state development, as well as outline further steps.

Recall that earlier the president announced the determination of a candidate for the position of the new head of the Office, but the official name will be announced later. The head of state also announced significant personnel changes among the heads of regional state administrations at the beginning of 2026.

Moreover, the day before, the president reported that January 2 would be an important day for Ukraine's domestic policy.

This appointment will undoubtedly be an important step for strengthening Ukraine's security policy, as the need to focus on defense issues is particularly emphasized in the context of current challenges. It is expected that collaboration between Budanov and Umerov, as well as other leaders, will help to determine a clear action plan for the further development of the country.
