Ukrainian President's Address
According to UATV: On March 19, 2023, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy addressed the European Council, calling for stepped-up assistance to counter Russian attacks. His speech highlighted the urgent requirement for missiles compatible with Patriot air defense systems and the expansion of drone manufacturing capabilities. This appeal comes as Ukraine continues to face relentless aerial assaults, making advanced air defense a top priority.
Zelenskyy stressed that European support is vital for protecting Ukrainian territory.
“We value Europe’s backing in defending against Russian strikes, especially regarding air defense systems and the growth of drone production,” the president emphasized. He also underscored the critical need to secure missiles for the Patriot system, stating that
“this is absolutely essential.”
Funding and Assistance
Discussions during the session also covered financial measures to bolster Ukraine’s economy and military, including the 20th package of sanctions against Russia. European leaders are currently deliberating a €90 billion support package for Ukraine, reflecting the gravity of the situation.
Zelenskyy further noted that
“this is about protection from Russian ballistic strikes. Above all, it is about saving the lives of our people.”
In essence, Zelenskyy’s pleas for stronger European backing underscore Ukraine’s pressing need to fortify its defensive capabilities amid ongoing Russian aggression. Europe’s support not only strengthens Ukraine’s defenses but also signals global unity in countering aggression.
