Crimea’s Growing Crisis

According to UATV: The Chongar Bridge has sustained severe damage from Ukrainian military strikes, cutting off the key crossing between Kherson region and Crimea. This has worsened an already dire situation in Crimea, marked by fuel shortages and a lack of essential food supplies. The bridge was first hit on June 7, with additional damage reported overnight on June 9. In response, the Russian military command has prohibited the transport of military cargo along the Mariupol–Berdiansk–Melitopol–Simferopol route.

Fuel Shortages and Food Scarcity

Since late May, Crimea has been grappling with a fuel crisis that now limits gasoline sales to just 20 liters per tank. Local residents are facing significant difficulties due to the lack of fuel. Meanwhile, food shortages are beginning to emerge, with particular scarcity of:

  • sugar
  • rice
  • buckwheat
  • salt
  • flour
  • cooking oil
  • pasta

The Kerch Bridge is also operating below full capacity due to previous explosions, further complicating transportation. Truck traffic along the Mariupol–Berdiansk–Melitopol–Simferopol route has dropped by 71%. According to Andriy Kovalenko,

'The Chongar Bridge has been completely destroyed. Russian authorities are trying to downplay the situation in temporarily occupied Crimea.'
A soldier with the call sign 'Profi' confirmed the severity, stating, 'We can repeat this information.'

In summary, Crimea is now facing not only critical infrastructure damage but also a severe economic crisis that directly impacts the daily lives of its residents. With limited access to fuel and food, the population’s ability to sustain normal life is deteriorating, raising the risk of social unrest or increased tensions among local communities.
