Youth of Ukraine Massively Refusing Higher Education: What They Choose Instead.
According to inkorr.com: A new trend is emerging among young people – more and more young individuals are opting for vocational specialties instead of traditional university degrees. It was previously believed that obtaining a higher education was paramount. However, according to a Zety survey, over half of the youth are seriously considering professions that do not require higher education.
Popularity of Vocational Specialties
According to the data from the National Research Center, the number of students in colleges and vocational schools has increased by nearly 20% since 2020, while universities showed only a slight increase of just 2%. One of the reasons for this is the shorter duration of studies in colleges (1-2 years), which allows students to quickly start their careers and earn a stable income.
Reasons for Choosing Vocational Professions
The Zety survey revealed that several key factors influence the choices of young people: fear of artificial intelligence, high salaries, and job stability. Experts believe that the youth are choosing professions that will remain in demand amid the technological revolution.
Thus, Ukrainian youth are increasingly leaning towards vocational specialties instead of traditional higher education, driven by the desire to gain a profession with a short training period, high pay, and stability. This shift may be attributed to the fear of technological changes and the aspiration to have a sought-after profession in a rapidly evolving world.
