Talks between Zelensky and Trump: there is progress, but key positions have not changed

According to ТСН: After lengthy negotiations between Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and US President Donald Trump, no significant changes in the positions of the parties have been achieved.

Correspondent Mark Stone reported this. The meeting in Mar-a-Lago was called promising, but without tangible results.

“In fact, it is quite difficult to understand what is happening, as, looking at the facts, there has been no real progress today.”

Stone also noted that Trump and Zelensky talked about potential progress, but neither side has significantly changed its position on key issues.

“They talked about great progress. Trump — undoubtedly. Zelensky — a bit more cautiously. But it seems that neither side has changed or budged from its positions on key issues.”

The correspondent emphasized that the parties did not step back, which is a positive point, but reiterated that “I do not believe that there have been any substantial changes in positions.”

Recall that after the meeting with Zelensky, Trump stated that there was significant progress in ending the war, estimating the willingness to reach agreements at 95%. He also mentioned that he discussed various topics with European leaders and Russian President Vladimir Putin. Despite the optimism regarding security guarantees, Trump acknowledged that the status of Donbas remains an “unresolved” issue.

Zelensky, for his part, reported that a 20-point peace plan was agreed upon at 90% and 100% support for security guarantees from the US side. He also emphasized that military support corresponding to Article 5 of NATO is fully supported by the American side.

Trump noted that he would continue communication with Zelensky on December 29.

This meeting outlines an important stage in the relations between Ukraine and the USA, although the efforts of both presidents did not lead to substantial shifts. There is still much work ahead, particularly in the context of security guarantees and further peace initiatives, requiring active cooperation between the countries. Observers point out that such dialogues remain key to stability in the region and resolving the conflict in Eastern Ukraine.
