The Kremlin, however, has turned down the offer, with Putin stating he sees no point in such a discussion. This exchange comes amid the ongoing full-scale war between the two nations, which began in February 2022.

Zelenskyy released his open letter on June 4, 2026, expressing his willingness to sit down with Putin personally if it could help bring the conflict to an end. In the letter, he remarked:

“I sent an open letter because I don’t know whether he will read it or not.”

Putin’s Response

For his part, Vladimir Putin said that after reviewing the letter, he does not see any need for a personal meeting with the Ukrainian leader. This stance underscores the current deadlock, with both sides holding fundamentally different positions on potential negotiations.

Zelenskyy also called for a halt to hostilities, voicing hope that both parties could find common ground to achieve peace.
