Mykhailo Fedorov Steps Down as Defense Minister
According to Espreso.tv: On July 15, Mykhailo Fedorov announced his resignation as Ukraine’s defense minister, sparking a wave of protests and outrage among military personnel and politicians. The government must respond to the challenges of war, and Ukrainians need to honestly assess the country’s situation.
The following day, July 16, Serhiy Sterhenko, an advisor to the minister, also left his post. That same day, Deputy Commander of the Ukrainian Air Force Pavlo Yelizarov submitted his resignation, expressing concerns about the nation’s defense capabilities. He stated,
“The dismissal of Defense Minister Mykhailo Fedorov is a great evil for the country’s defense capability.”
Public Reaction
A rally in support of Fedorov took place on July 16 at Ivan Franko Square in Kyiv, where citizens voiced their anger over the decision to remove him. Meanwhile, EU Commissioner Andrius Kubilius described the resignation as a surprise for the European Union.
Commenting on his departure, Fedorov noted,
