Mass Fish Die-off in Odesa Region — What Caused It.
In the estuaries of the Odesa region, a mass die-off of fish and shrimp has been recorded. Ecologists have already started collecting samples for laboratory research to find out what caused this tragedy for marine organisms.
Causes of Fish Death in Water
Mass die-off of aquatic bioresources has been observed in the Tylihulski and Khadzhybei estuaries. According to preliminary assessments by ecologists, the possible causes may include:
- high water temperature,
- decreased dissolved oxygen levels,
- decay of algae,
- hydrogen sulfide release from the bottom of water bodies.
Currently, specialists from the State Environmental Inspection are collecting water samples in the areas where fish die-offs are observed. The obtained samples will be sent to the laboratory for further research.
'The situation is under control. We will report on developments additionally',
We remind you that recently we wrote about the chicks of a rare duck that settled in the Odesa region and feels at home. We also reported on a dangerous fish that may threaten human life.
Ecologists in the Odesa region have discovered a mass die-off of fish and shrimp in the estuaries. Possible causes include high water temperature, lack of oxygen, algae decay, and hydrogen sulfide. Specialists are collecting samples for laboratory research to determine the exact causes of this ecological disaster.
