The loss of Pokrowsk will not lead to a collapse of the front – ISW statement.
According to ТСН: The ISW believes that the loss of Pokrowsk will not lead to a rapid collapse of Ukrainian defense in the Donetsk region. The Russian side is likely to be unable to achieve an operational breakthrough immediately. This is primarily due to the positional nature of the war, strong fortifications in Ukraine, and the difficult terrain.
Troop Movements and Costs
Researchers at the Institute for the Study of War, Jessica Sobieski and Jenny Olmsted, point out that the fall of Pokrowsk will free up significant Russian combat resources. This will allow Russia to shift units from at least two general armies that are currently concentrated in the Pokrowsk area to other front sections. This concerns:
The 51st ZVA – it operates within the Pokrowsk-Myrnograd “cauldron”;
The 2nd ZVA – disperses its forces between attempting to close the “cauldron” from the north and attempts to advance north and northwest from Pokrowsk towards Dobropillia.
The Situation at the Front
Analysts add that the battles for Pokrowsk have held up significant Russian forces and the attempts by the 51st ZVA to capture the city have limited their ability to advance towards Dobropillia.
“After the fall of Pokrowsk, Russia will be able to shift these troops particularly towards Huljaipole, the eastern region of the Zaporizhzhia region, and the Dnipropetrovsk region, where recent Russian successes pose a threat to Ukrainian defense lines, or to the ‘fortification belt’. At the same time, Russia will need time to recover from the significant losses suffered in the campaign for Pokrowsk,” analysts emphasized.
Previously, DeepState reported bad news from the front:
“The enemy has made advances near the villages of Zwaniwka and Riwne, as well as in the city of Pokrowsk in the Donetsk region. The Russians have also succeeded near the settlement of Datschne in the Dnipropetrovsk region,” the statement said.
Thus, the situation at the front remains tense. The loss of Pokrowsk could change the balance of power, however, Ukrainian fortifications and the difficult terrain may play a decisive role in further defense. In the future, it is important to monitor the troop movements of both sides, as this could influence events in the region.
