Fuel Quality Investigation at Gas Station Networks

According to TSN.ua: A recent fuel quality inspection by the Institute of Consumer Expertise has identified violations at six gas station chains, including BRSM-Nafta and MARSHALL. The investigation confirmed that six other networks did comply with the DSTU national standards. The highest octane rating was recorded at WOG, measuring 95.9 units. KLO and PARALLEL networks followed with octane ratings of 95.7 and 95.6 units, respectively.

Sulfur and Aromatic Hydrocarbon Content

The study also measured sulfur content in the gasoline. WOG's fuel contained 2.6 mg/kg of sulfur, while UKRNAFTA's contained 3 mg/kg. KLO had a higher sulfur content of 5 mg/kg. The aromatic hydrocarbon content in fuels from KLO and AVANTAGE 7 exceeded 26%. The cleanest gasoline in terms of benzene content was found at WOG and UKRNAFTA, where it measured 0.62%.

Six networks were placed in the red zone for violations:

  • BRSM-Nafta
  • MARSHALL
  • Neon
  • Astra
  • Evro 5
  • Energy +
The octane number at MARSHALL was only 93.6 units. Exceedances of sulfur content were observed at BRSM-Nafta and Energy +. In the A-95 gasoline from BRSM-Nafta, bioethanol content exceeded 10%, while the fuel from Evro 5 contained over 35% alcohol.

These findings highlight the critical need for rigorous fuel quality control at Ukrainian filling stations, as some networks are not meeting established norms. For drivers, using substandard fuel can damage engines and increase harmful emissions. The results underscore how non-compliance can affect vehicle safety, environmental impact, and consumer trust in specific brands. Recognizing networks that adhere to standards may encourage greater competition based on service quality within Ukraine's fuel market.
