NABU Exposes Million-Dollar Bribery Scheme in Drone Procurement for the State Border Guard Service
According to Novyny.live: Ukraine's National Anti-Corruption Bureau (NABU), working alongside the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office, has exposed an official from the State Border Guard Service and the owner of a private drone manufacturing company for demanding a $1 million bribe. The illicit payment was sought in exchange for securing a contract to supply drones for military purposes.
Investigation Details
In August 2025, a military unit of the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine launched a procurement process for unmanned aerial systems. A private drone manufacturing company offered its products at a price of UAH 825 million. During this tender, the owner of another company demanded an illegal payment from the winning bidder, which triggered the investigation.
This case highlights the critical need to combat corruption in public procurement, especially within the defense sector, and showcases law enforcement's efforts to detect and dismantle corrupt schemes that could threaten national security.
The incident sends a strong signal about the necessity of transparent and fair tenders in defense, particularly amid Ukraine's growing military requirements. Exposing and punishing corrupt practices in such vital areas not only strengthens public trust in state institutions but also enhances the efficiency of budget funds allocated for the country's defense.
