Investigation into the Missile Attack
According to Novyny.live: The probe into the April 23, 2022 missile strike on a residential building in Odesa remains active. Ukrainian law enforcement has identified two Russian military commanders allegedly involved in the attack and formally notified them of suspicion. The assault claimed the lives of eight civilians, including a young girl, her mother, grandmother, and a pregnant woman.
Russia's long-range aviation commander, Sergey Kobylash, issued the order for the strike. The attack was coordinated by:
- Oleg Varpakhovich, commander of Russia's 22nd Guards Heavy Bomber Aviation Division;
- Alexei Skitsky, commander of the 121st Heavy Bomber Aviation Regiment.
Beyond the human toll, the strike damaged apartments, a business center, and multiple vehicles. Eleven other individuals sustained injuries in this ruthless assault.
Recovery and Aftermath
Restoration of the destroyed building took over a year, wrapping up in September 2023. The investigation continues, with Varpakhovich and Skitsky charged in absentia with violating the laws and customs of war. Evidence gathering is ongoing as authorities work to bring closure to a tragedy that has deeply shaken the public.
