Drone Procurement Scandal: Ukrainian Border Guard Officer Suspected in Corruption Scheme as NABU Conducts Raids.
State Border Guard Service Cooperates Actively with Investigators
According to Novyny.live: Ukraine's State Border Guard Service (SBGS) is fully cooperating with law enforcement in a probe tied to an organized scheme for drone acquisitions. A military officer from the agency is suspected of creating conditions to secure illicit financial gains. The National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine (NABU) has already conducted searches across several SBGS units.
The investigation focuses on the purchase of unmanned aerial systems carried out last year. Although the procurement procedure followed legal channels and the contract was awarded to the firm with the lowest bid, authorities are scrutinizing whether any misconduct occurred. The SBGS has emphasized that no one has the right to profit from equipment intended for the front lines.
Accountability and Transparency in Public Spending
The SBGS stated that it 'works with the investigation, facilitates procedural actions, and is itself interested in an objective probe of all circumstances to determine the level of the soldier's involvement.' The agency also stressed that 'the extent of the serviceman's participation in illegal activities and his degree of responsibility must be determined by a court after evaluating the evidence presented by the prosecution.' Meanwhile, the SBGS assured that 'no one will cover up any unlawful actions.'
Searches at SBGS units in Kyiv are ongoing as investigators seek to uncover all details of the case. This probe has drawn widespread public attention, as it involves the use of state funds in the military sector. The SBGS has reiterated its openness to cooperating with the investigation and its readiness to provide full assistance.
The situation underscores the critical need for transparency and accountability in the management of budget resources, especially during wartime, when funds allocated for defense must serve national security interests alone. This case could serve as a major test for the State Border Guard Service regarding public trust and the confidence of international partners in Ukraine's military institutions.
