According to ТСН: American expert Jan Brzezinski believes that only two situations can force Putin to negotiate: the threat of losing territories or an agreement that allows him to control Ukraine.

Situations that force negotiations

“Only two things can make Putin agree to a ceasefire. The first and the best is a change in the balance of power that threatens his territorial gains,” Brzezinski explained.

The expert emphasized that as soon as Putin feels the risk of losing part of the territories he has illegally captured in Ukraine, he will undoubtedly return to negotiations.

“The second, in my opinion, is much more alarming: it is an agreement that creates conditions for Putin to achieve his goal later,” emphasized the analyst.

Brzezinski also noted that Putin's main goal is complete control over Ukraine.

Pressure on the President of Ukraine

The expert expressed his concern about the pressure on the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky to hold elections, which could lead to political instability and give Russia an opportunity to intervene.

“And here I am worried about the West's position, particularly the negotiating position of the United States,” Brzezinski emphasized.

According to him, there is pressure on Ukraine with the demand to concede part of its territories, including strategically important defensive lines in Donbas.

“There is also talk about limiting the number of Ukrainian Armed Forces,” the analyst added, “as if Ukraine, with an army that constitutes only a third of the Russian one, threatens Russia.”

He stated that there is pressure on Zelensky regarding holding new elections, which is a significant source of political instability.

Russia, according to him, could take advantage of this through disinformation and other hidden tools to influence the election results.

International Proposals

French President Emmanuel Macron noted that Europe may return to direct negotiations with Putin if the US peace efforts to end the war in Ukraine fail.

Also, the former head of the Ukrainian Foreign Intelligence Service, Army General Mykola Malomuzh, said that if Putin does not accept the West's conditions regarding territorial integrity and security guarantees for Ukraine, allies must move to a tougher model of pressure.

The situation around Ukraine remains tense, and the international community continues to seek ways to peacefully resolve the conflict. Russia's actions are causing concern, and the pressure on the Ukrainian leadership may have far-reaching consequences for stability in the region. Negotiations and international efforts still play a key role in achieving peace.
