Pothole Repairs in Kyiv: Expert Explains Why Patches Crumble Within Months.
Criticism of Kyiv's Pothole Repair Methods
According to Novyny.live: Viktor Hleba, an expert in public administration for urban development and former deputy chief architect of Kyiv, has criticized the city's pothole repair work. He states that failure to follow proper procedures leads to patches deteriorating rapidly, sometimes not even lasting three months. The lack of oversight during these repairs only makes the situation worse.
Hleba emphasizes that for quality road repairs across Ukraine, an investment of at least 50 billion hryvnias is necessary. He points out that the absence of proper supervision during the repair process results in the quick destruction of the repaired sections. This is a common issue in many post-Soviet cities where maintenance is often reactive rather than planned.
'There is no life cycle, no responsible parties, no kind of, let's say, project-budget control,' notes Viktor Hleba.
He is also convinced that 'the life cycle of this patch, remember the address, in three months we will go there to look, and it will be crumbling.' This comment underscores the severity of the problem facing the capital's roads.
The Need for Investment and Oversight
Given the situation, the expert stresses the need to implement more effective repair methods and proper oversight of their execution. Without appropriate investment and technology, quality roads will remain just a dream for many Ukrainian cities.
This criticism of Kyiv's pothole repairs highlights the importance of infrastructure investment and effective management practices. With limited budgets and high quality demands, the expert calls for a more systematic approach that includes:
- adequate funding
- supervision of work execution
This could be a key factor in improving Ukraine's road infrastructure, which in turn would impact the safety and comfort of citizens' travel.
