After Donald Trump's return to the presidency of the United States, Vladimir Putin sees an opportunity to break free from international isolation and restore his image as a statesman. The Russian leader is particularly interested in having Trump help him regain his former status on the world stage.

This was stated by David Kyrychenko, an associate researcher at the Henry Jackson Society's analytical center in London, in his article for The Hill.

According to the expert, the Russian leader deliberately demonstrates 'politeness' towards the American president, trying to create a basis for a future landmark meeting. 'First and foremost, Putin craves a direct summit with the US, excluding Ukraine, to strengthen his narrative of Russia as a global superpower,' emphasizes Kyrychenko.

Amid the difficult economic situation in Russia, Putin acts especially cautiously, avoiding provocations against Trump, who has already warned about the possibility of increasing sanctions.

The Kremlin consistently avoids direct negotiations with Kyiv, instead seeking dialogue with Washington. The expert particularly points out the difference in approaches between the current US President Joe Biden, who adhered to the principle of 'Nothing about Ukraine without Ukraine,' and Donald Trump, who is inclined to resolve the conflict on his own terms.

The analyst emphasized that the Russian dictator views Trump's desire for a deal as an opportunity to impose favorable terms for Russia, even if it threatens Ukraine's sovereignty and security.

Such negotiations, according to Kyrychenko, will not only end Russia's international isolation but also affirm its claims to influence in Ukraine and help restore the image of Russia as an influential imperialist state on the world stage.
