Can Parliament Get Back on Track? Arakhamia Says Situation Is Under Control.
Current State of Ukraine’s Parliament
According to Novyny.live: David Arakhamia, head of the 'Servant of the People' faction, has stated that the situation in the Verkhovna Rada remains manageable despite ongoing difficulties. He emphasized that efforts are currently underway to restore the legislature’s normal operations. According to Arakhamia,
“the question is how we move forward”—a remark reflecting his faction’s determination to find effective solutions for improving parliamentary function.
Obstacles and Pressing Issues
Still, the challenges facing the parliament are far from resolved. Ruslan Horbenko reported that for over a year, the chamber has never had more than 228 deputies present at the same time. This attendance shortfall hampers the legislative process, as passing decisions requires a clear majority. Adding to the concern, Danylo Hetmantsev stated that Ukraine is currently experiencing a political crisis, which further complicates the Rada’s work. He noted that the ninth convocation of the Verkhovna Rada is losing its momentum, a trend that has alarmed many lawmakers.
The difficulties inside parliament mirror broader political and social pressures facing Ukraine. A prolonged political crisis and low deputy engagement risk delaying critical legislation—especially on issues like economic stability and national security. With such urgent matters on the agenda, the effectiveness of the Rada is becoming increasingly vital for the country’s continued progress.
