Ukrainian Parliament to Convene June 18: Unblocking Military Funding for the Armed Forces.
Emergency Session of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine
According to Novyny.live: On June 18, Ukraine's parliament, the Verkhovna Rada, will hold an emergency session aimed at unlocking a stalled bill that provides funding for the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU). The opposition has blocked the legislation, prompting Defense Minister Mykhailo Fedorov to formally request urgent parliamentary action. This funding is vital for sustaining Ukraine's defense capabilities amid ongoing security challenges.
According to lawmakers, the session is scheduled for Thursday, June 18. Danylo Hetmantsev, a member of parliament from the 'Servant of the People' party and chair of the parliamentary finance committee, stated:
“The Verkhovna Rada will convene an emergency session on Thursday, June 18, to unblock the military funding bill that the opposition has held up. Fedorov sent us a letter with this request.” — Danylo Hetmantsev
Military Funding Situation
It is important to note that on June 10, parliament passed Bill No. 15224 in its second reading, which amends the state budget for 2026. However, due to the bill being blocked, seven draft resolutions have already been registered in parliament seeking to annul the vote on it. Multiple sources indicate that the 'European Solidarity' faction is responsible for delaying the bill's consideration.
David Arakhamia, head of the 'Servant of the People' faction, emphasized that the session is being held at the defense minister's request, stating:
“The Verkhovna Rada will meet on Thursday, June 18, to unblock the military funding bill, which was blocked by the 'European Solidarity' faction. The session is being held at the request of... Fedorov.” — David Arakhamia
In this way, the Verkhovna Rada aims to resolve the issue of AFU funding, which is critically important for ensuring the country's defense capabilities amid the current situation. The emergency session is expected to be a key step toward supporting the military and providing it with necessary resources. Sustaining AFU funding in the face of growing security challenges is essential for state stability and its ability to counter external threats.
