This landslide destroyed an entire village.
Sudan Liberation MovementAccording to reports from the Sudan Liberation Movement (SLM), only one person survived this tragedy.
The excessive rainfall that poured over several days caused the collapse of the slopes of the Marra Mountains.
Entire families, including men, women, and children, were trapped under the rubble in the village of Tarasin, which was 'completely leveled to the ground,' as noted by SLM representatives.
“Initial information indicates the death of all residents of the village, whose number exceeds a thousand. Only one person survived.”
The leader of SLM, Abdelwahid Mohamed Nur, called on the international community for assistance in recovering the bodies.
The governor of Darfur qualified the situation as a “humanitarian tragedy.” The villagers fled to the Marra Mountains after fierce fighting forced them to leave their homes.
There is a shortage of food and medical supplies in the mountains.
As a result of the conflict in the region, more than 150,000 people have died, and around 12 million people have been displaced. The UN warns that the situation in Darfur has become the biggest humanitarian crisis in the world.
Situation in Darfur
A catastrophe is ongoing in Darfur: famine and reports of genocide are being recorded. For two years, the Sudanese Army and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) have been fighting for control of the region.
SLM, as a rebel group, controls the territory of Darfur, and some of its factions have promised to support the Sudanese Army in the fight against RSF. Many residents of the region believe that RSF and their allies are trying to clear the territory of ethnic minorities to establish Arab dominance.
It is noteworthy that the landslide occurred just a few hours after a powerful earthquake in Afghanistan, which killed over 800 people.

Its aftershocks were felt even in Pakistan's capital, Islamabad, which is nearly 200 miles from the epicenter.
Villages in the Kunar province, near Jalalabad and the Pakistani border, were also affected.
Reports of entire villages being destroyed were recorded.
The tragedy in Darfur highlights the complex humanitarian situation in the region that requires urgent attention from the global community. Famine, violence, and natural disasters create a critical environment that threatens the lives of many people. This situation demands active measures to prevent further losses and help those in need of support.
