Emergency Power Cuts Leave Ukrainian Homes Without Heating.
Emergency Power Outages Across Ukraine
According to UATV: Ukraine is experiencing emergency power outages in several regions following Russian missile strikes. As of January 23, 2023, the national energy company Ukrenergo has reported significant issues with the country's electricity supply. These attacks are part of a wider campaign targeting critical infrastructure. Communities in the Dnipropetrovsk, Zaporizhzhia, Kharkiv, and Sumy regions remain without power.
Restoration Efforts in Kyiv and Other Areas
In the capital, Kyiv, nearly 2,000 apartment buildings are still without heat. However, restoration crews made progress overnight, successfully restoring heating to more than 650 buildings. Repair teams are also actively working to fix the damage from Russian strikes on energy infrastructure in the Odesa, Kharkiv, and Zaporizhzhia regions to reconnect the power supply.
The state of Ukraine's energy infrastructure remains critical due to relentless Russian bombardment, causing severe disruptions to electricity and heating. Restoring these systems is a national priority, but the process is immensely challenging given the scale of the destruction. The ongoing conflict means recovery will require significant time and resources to achieve a stable energy supply for the population.
