The plane crash in Tehran — court ruling regarding UIA
Thus, UIA must pay full compensation to the families of the passengers who died as a result of the PS752 crash in Tehran. The court found that the airline was negligent in not assessing the risks associated with flights from Tehran.
According to international law, airlines are responsible for paying compensation of up to $180,000 to each passenger in cases of fault. In the case of negligence being established, the compensation amount may be increased. The court had previously determined that UIA failed to carry out an adequate risk assessment before flying from Tehran.
This court ruling stripped UIA of the right to limit the compensation amount for the families of the deceased. The verdict remains unchanged.
