Free Health Screenings for Over-40s in Ukraine: Eligibility and Process from 2026.
The 'Health Screening 40+' Program
According to Novyny.live: Ukraine will launch a new national health initiative, the 'Health Screening 40+' program, starting January 1, 2026. This program offers free medical examinations to all citizens aged 40 and older, aiming to improve public health through the early detection of potential diseases. Such preventative screening programs are common in many developed nations to reduce long-term healthcare costs.
Program Participation
All citizens who have reached the age of 40 are eligible to participate. To register for the free screening, individuals must submit an application via the 'Diia' digital platform or at an Administrative Service Center (ASC). Participants will receive an allocated sum of 2,000 hryvnias to cover the cost of the examination, which must be used no later than December 17 of the enrollment year. Notably, individuals born between October and December have an extended deadline to use these funds until March 31 of the following year. Any unused funds will be automatically returned to the state budget.
The 'Health Screening 40+' examination includes:
- Physical examinations,
- Risk factor questionnaires,
- Laboratory tests.
This comprehensive check-up is designed to ensure timely disease detection and improve the overall health of qualifying Ukrainians.
The introduction of the 'Health Screening 40+' program represents a significant step toward enhancing medical care in Ukraine, particularly for older adults. Early diagnosis and disease prevention can substantially reduce the burden on the healthcare system and improve the population's quality of life. This initiative aligns with modern medical trends that emphasize preventative care over solely treating existing conditions.
