Growing Majority of Russians Blame Putin for the War as Ukraine Signals Readiness for Talks.
Shifting Public Mood in Russia and Ukraine's Negotiation Stance
According to Espreso.tv: According to Ukraine's president, a growing number of Russians are now directing their frustration at Vladimir Putin over the protracted conflict between the two nations. He stated that
“a majority in Russia now holds Putin accountable for a war that seems to have no end in sight”(President of Ukraine). This marks a notable shift in public sentiment within Russia, where discontent with the president's handling of the war is on the rise.
At the same time, the Ukrainian president confirmed that Kyiv remains open to dialogue with Moscow. He emphasized that
“Ukraine has already put forward all the necessary proposals to begin genuine negotiations with Russia”(President of Ukraine). This underscores Ukraine's commitment to a diplomatic resolution. Notably, a framework for peace talks was previously established in Istanbul back in 2022.
The president's remarks highlight the increasing internal pressure inside Russia, fueled by the war's duration—a factor that could reshape the country's political landscape. If the situation does not improve, growing public dissatisfaction may erode support for Putin. Conversely, Ukraine's willingness to negotiate reflects its pursuit of a peaceful end to the conflict, potentially opening the door for renewed diplomatic efforts moving forward.
