New Poll: Majority of Ukrainians Favor a Peace Deal Referendum.
Survey on a Potential Peace Referendum
According to TSN.ua: A new poll conducted by the Kyiv International Institute of Sociology (KIIS) reveals that a majority of Ukrainians support holding a referendum to approve any potential peace agreement. The survey found that 55% of respondents back the idea of ratifying a peace deal through a nationwide vote. In contrast, 32% are categorically opposed to such a referendum, while 14% remain undecided or expressed uncertainty.
Views on Territorial Concessions
The poll also indicates that most Ukrainians reject the scenario of making territorial concessions to Russia in exchange for security guarantees from the West. More than half of respondents firmly oppose the idea of withdrawing troops from the Ukrainian-controlled part of Donbas. These results highlight the complex and often uncompromising stance of Ukrainian society regarding potential compromises in peace negotiations. The findings come at a critical juncture in the ongoing conflict, underscoring the public's desire for a direct voice in decisions of national survival.
The survey results demonstrate that issues of peace and territorial integrity evoke deep emotions among Ukrainians. Support for a referendum suggests a public demand for greater participation in decisions that directly impact their lives and security. This underscores the crucial need for societal consensus in any peace process, which will likely be a decisive factor in shaping the future of the region.
