The US considers allowing Ukraine to strike Russia with long-range weapons

US Secretary of State Antony Blinken stated that President Joe Biden does not exclude the possibility of granting Ukraine permission to strike Russian territory with long-range weapons.

Blinken mentioned this in an interview with Sky News.

According to Blinken, the US has provided Ukraine "with everything necessary and in a timely manner to be effective in repelling Russian aggression" since the full-scale invasion began in February 2022. However, he added that Washington also considers other factors, such as the ability of Ukrainian forces to use and maintain the complex weapon systems provided by Western allies.

"We do not exclude it. We never exclude. But when we intervene, we want to make sure that it is done in a way that supports what the Ukrainians are trying to achieve,"
Blinken noted.

The Secretary of State also reported that on September 13, President Biden will meet with UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer to discuss the possibility of granting the Ukrainian Defense Forces permission to strike deep into Russia.

It is worth noting that recently Ukraine has actively urged allies to lift restrictions on the use of long-range weapons for strikes on Russia. This would allow targeting, in particular, aircraft launching cruise missiles and guided bombs.

However, Pentagon chief Lloyd Austin stated that no means, including long-range missiles, are decisive in countering the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
